MANILA, Philippines — The number Filipino crewmembers of quarantined luxury ship Diamond Princess in Japan rose to five as four more tested positive along with 62 others newly confirmed cases of novel coronavirus (nCoV).
The stricken ship remains docked at the port of Yokohama in Japan since Feb. 4.
The latest infection of the Filipino ship workers was confirmed Sunday by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), through the Philippine embassy in Tokyo.
“They are now being treated in hospitals in Japan,” the DFA said in a statement yesterday, Monday.
“The embassy is closely coordinating with Japanese authorities and maintains constant communication with the Filipinos onboard,” the DFA said.
Latest report by the Associated Press claimed the total number of new infections on board the Princess is pegged at 66.
The DFA further said there are 538 Filipinos onboard the ship, including seven passengers. (IAMIGO/SPH.com)
