MANILA – Infections of the novel coronavirus, which is now officially named as COVID-19, whose epicenter was traced to Wuhan, China, is still rising.
It has now infected more than 45,100 people globally and the count is expected to grow more in the coming days.
The novel coronavirus (2019 nCoV) is now COVID-19 as suggested by the World Health Organization referring to its origin late last year and the coronavirus that causes it.
A wire agency released COVID-19’s latest figures as reported by each government’s health authority as of Wednesday in Beijing:
Mainland China: 1,113 deaths among 44,653 confirmed cases, mostly in the central province of Hubei.
Hong Kong: 509 case s, 1 death
Japan: 203, including 174 from a cruise ship docked in Japan
South Korea: 28
United States: 13. Separately, one U.S. citizen died in China
United Kingdom: 8
United Arab Emirates: 8
Philippines: 3 cases, including 1 death
Sri Lanka: 1
