MANILA, Philippines— Tourism chief Bernadette Romulo-Puyat on Monday gladly announced the country already breached its 2019 international arrivals target of 8.2 million with 8.26 million foreign visitor arrivals recorded last year.
“This heralds a new milestone in the country’s tourism history, breaching the eight millionth mark,” Romulo-Puyat said.
“Without doubt, our convergence programs with other government agencies, particularly in improving access as well as product development and marketing initiatives with local government and private sector have greatly paid off.”
Tourist arrivals accordingly rose 12.4% to 4.85 million in just seven (7) months.
“These gains we hope to sustain even as we face global challenges,” the tourism chief said.
2019’s year-end visitor arrival report said that the record-breaking foreign tourist arrival was recorded at a 15.24-percent increase from 2018’s 7.16 million international arrivals.
The double-digit growth were in most months except for January the DOT said. (ia/sovereignph.com)
