GENERAL SANTOS CITY – One of the persons under monitoring (PUM) in Soccsksargen for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) has been placed under medical isolation after reportedly manifesting the symptoms.
Arjohn Gangoso, health education and promotions officer of the Department of Health (DOH)-Region 12, said Thursday the person is now considered a patient under investigation (PUI) and confined in an undisclosed hospital in the region.
Gangoso said samples have already been taken from the patient–the third for the region–and were submitted to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) for Covid-19 confirmatory test.
“The patient was already on the 12th day of home quarantine when the symptoms came out,” he told Philippine News Agency in a phone interview, adding the person traveled to Taiwan and arrived in the region about two weeks ago.
Gangoso said the PUI experienced cough, colds, and difficulty passing urine, adding that the test result for the third PUI is expected to be released by RITM either Thursday or Friday.
DOH-12 personnel had earlier quarantined two other PUIs but both have tested negative for the deadly Covid-19.
As of Thursday, the DOH-12’s epidemiology and surveillance unit said a total of 60 persons in the region were subjected to monitoring protocol for Covid-19 in the last three weeks.
Of the number, 45 have already completed the mandatory 14-day home quarantine and cleared of possible infection.
Of the remaining 15 PUMs, at least 10 were based in North Cotabato, three here and two in South Cotabato. (PNA)
