ZAMBOANGA CITY – A manhunt has been launched to arrest a carpenter who killed his policewoman-niece and injured another in a west coast village here.
Capt. Edwin Duco, Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) information officer, said subject of the manhunt is Felixberto Esperat, 60.
Duco identified the fatality as Senior Master Sgt. Marjorie Ebol Mauricio, 45, of the Police Station 10.
Wounded was another of the suspect’s niece, Sweet Grace Santos, 43, who was hospitalized.
Duco said the investigation showed that prior to the incident, Mauricio and Esperat were arguing as the victim tried to calm down her uncle, who was drunk at the time.
Instead of calming down, police said Esperat suddenly pulled out a bolo and hacked Mauricio on the arm and neck and turned to Santos, who was also hit on the arm.
Mauricio was rushed to the Labuan public hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Police said Esperat fled and remains at large as of posting time.
