MANILA — The Department of Education (DepEd) Task Force Covid-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) has instructed officials, participants and attendees of the National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) and National Festival of Talents (NFOT) to observe safety precautions and protocols to minimize the risk of spreading the disease.
In DepEd Task Force Covid-19 Memorandum No. 1 issued Monday, the DepEd stressed the importance of proper hand and respiratory hygiene, safe food practices and related precautions in containing the Covid-19 virus.
“When coughing and sneezing, maintain distance and cover mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissue, immediately throw away the tissue into a closed bin and wash hands. Avoid close contact with anyone who has fever,” DepEd said.
The DepEd also advised on the improvement of airflow in the activity venues by opening windows and doors.
On the wearing of medical masks, the DepEd said individuals exhibiting or feeling symptoms of respiratory infections must wear them to contain respiratory secretions.
“The World Health Organization states that a medical mask is not required for non-sick persons. However, in crowded places where one is unsure of any possible exposure, one may resort to wearing a mask,” the DepEd added.
It also advised NSPC and NFOT participants against unnecessary physical contact such as handshakes, hugs and kisses.
On Monday, the DepEd through Department Memorandum No. 034, series 2020 said only the NSPC and the NFOT will proceed while national and regional activities which require travel and congregation of schools, division, and regions will be suspended amid the continuing threat of the Covid-19. (PNA)
