MANILA – The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Tuesday appealed to the public to comply with social distancing and other measures being implemented by the government to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
“We encourage all our citizens to support the social distancing and other protection measures to prevent the spread of the virus,” NDRRMC spokesperson Mark Cashean Timbal said in a statement.
He said the enhanced community quarantine now being implemented all over Luzon is meant to protect all citizens in the island from Covid-19 infection.
“There may be accompanying sacrifices from everyone, but rest assured, as what the President mentioned last night, the government is going to support and sustain our countrymen through the various programs of each relevant government agency. Patuloy po tayong sumunod at makipagtulungan sa pamahalaan at sa isa’t isa (Let us all continue to follow and cooperate with the government and with each other),” Timbal said.
Earlier this month, the NDRRMC canceled the first quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill to prevent the possible spread of Covid-19.
As of Monday, the number of Covid-19 cases in the country has reached 142, with three cases of recovery and 12 deaths. (PNA)
