MANILA – A ranking Department of Health (DOH) official said they have detected 73 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, 22 March 2020.
In a radio interview over DZBB, DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that with the new cases, PH’s total number of confirmed cases is now pegged at 380.
Saturday night, the tally was only 307.
The 73 new cases within a span of 24 hours was the second biggest recorded for the country after 77 cases reported by the DOH 12 noon Saturday.
The health official also confirmed that the total number of fatalities in the country had reached 25.
The record on COVID-19 recoveries had increased to 15.
Meanwhile, Vergeire explained that the leap in figures could be “artificial” as the government conducts more tests and gathers more results.
“Our capacity has stabilized. We are already going through our backlogs before. Our capacity has been expanded to other laboratories,” Vergeire said in Filipino.
At least four (4) subnational laboratories are already operational with regards to COVID-19 testing.
It was also reported that around 125,000 testing kits from China and South Korea already arrived in the Philippines. (ia/sovereignph.com)
