MANILA – Compared to Wednesday’s 90, the number Thursday of the new coronavirus cases was a little lower at 71 new infections.
But still that number (71) remains a cause of alarm as COVID-19 cases in the Philippines climbed to 707.
At the same time, COVID-19 deaths also rose to 45 after seven (7) new fatalities was reported by the Department of Health Thursday afternoon.
The number of recoveries, meantime, stayed at 28 patients who were given clean bill of health or have been cleared of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the United Nations gave out a stern warning that unless the world come together to curb the spread of the virus, millions of people could die.
“COVID-19 is threatening the whole of humanity—and the whole of humanity must fight back,” UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said online.
“Global action and solidarity are crucial. Individual country responses are not going to be enough,” he added.
The number of confirmed cases worldwide now stand at 471,802 while the number of fatalities if pegged at 21,297. (ia/sovereignph.com)
