MANILA – The Mail Online of United Kingdom reported Friday (27 March 2020) Italy’s coronavirus crisis has now killed 37 doctors even as 6,000 medical workers have allegedly been infected.
Latest of the fatalities were three doctors in Bergamo, Foggia and Naples, the Italian Federation of Medical Professionals said, bringing the total to 37.
Meanwhile, the head of an Italian research institute said that 6,205 health workers had caught the disease or 8.3 per cent of Italy’s 74,376 total infections.
‘What we face every day is a real war bulletin. Doctors and their families mourn their dead,’ said Filippo Anelli, president of the doctors’ federation.
The dead include hospital doctors, general practitioners, dentists, psychiatrists and an ophthalmologist.
Italy’s coronavirus death toll has today soared by 712 to 8,215 with more than 6,100 new cases recorded, taking the global total past half a million.
The nation’s total number of confirmed cases has risen to 80,539, almost as many as China, where COVID-19 was first detected in December. (ia/sovereignph.com/online source)
