MANILA – A high-ranking official of the Department of Health (DOH) reported Friday afternoon that one of the agency’s Undersecretaries tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III confirmed the news Friday but the health department chief refused to disclose the identity of the official.

Duque only said “the infected DOH official is experiencing mild symptoms.”

“Yes, with mild symptoms,” Duque told reporters in a text message.

This is the second DOH official to have contracted the coronavirus.

The first patient who acquired the virus is a director in the agency’s central office as reported by Usec Rosette Vergerie in an interview over dzMM Tuesday evening.

As of Friday, March 26, there are 707 individuals in the country who have been afflicted by the COVID-19 disease marked by 45 deaths and 28 recoveries. (iam/
