DAVAO CITY – First District Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte apologized on Thursday over the behavior of his son, Omar, who was the subject of an irate post of a Facebook netizen.
The post said that Omar did not follow quarantine protocols amid the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, particularly in the queue at the SNR grocery store here.
“It has come to my attention that my son, Omar Duterte, went to SNR Davao and he did not line up to conduct the stringent screening requirements of the establishment. It is with humility that I apologize for the behavior of Omar and his impertinence shall be dealt with accordingly,” Pulong added.
He also labeled the incident as “unfortunate” given the health emergency that the country is facing.
Residents in the city queue up in grocery stores and other establishments as part of quarantine protocols, wherein the store guards individually get each shopper’s temperature and hand out sanitizers.
Meanwhile, Duterte also said the alleged misconduct of the security team accompanying Omar was being investigated by the Presidential Security Group.
Meanwhile, Omar took to his social media account to apologize about the incident.
The younger Duterte explained that he failed to follow the protocols because they have already put on their gloves and had followed proper hand sanitation.
“To those people who felt I should have followed protocol whilst being fully-gloved, I’m sorry. If I had known that it shouldn’t be seen as comedic to wash your hands moments after putting on gloves, I would have gladly just washed my hands and followed the protocol,” the Presidential Grandson said.
He also added: “I know this is not a laughing matter and for this, I cannot begin to express the great feeling of remorse of not following the protocols thinking that the gloves were enough. For this, I’m sorry.” (PNA)
