MANILA, Philippines – Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año has tested positive of COVID-19 but the result will not and shall not diminish his spirit and energy to do his job he said.
Año is of the top implementers of the government’s campaign to stem the spread of the coronavirus.
“The result of my test will not in any way dampen my spirit and energy to do my job,” the interior department chief said in a prepared statement.
“Today, March 31, I received the result from RITM informing me that I am positive for COVID-19,” Año added.
According to health experts, the interior Secretary could be asymptomatic as he is not showing any symptoms of the virus, like coughing, fever, or difficulty in breathing.
Año has a crucial role in PH’s fight against the virus as he is the vice chair of the government’s National Task Force in charge of implementing measures to contain the virus, such as lockdowns, checkpoints, and curfews of the police force.
“I make this announcement to call the attention of all persons I had close contact with to go on self-quarantine and observe any symptoms, in accordance with Department of Health (DOH) guidelines,” he said.
It was gathered that the DILG secretary came into contact with at least four (4) persons who tested positive for COVID-19.
As it is, he said he will continue to do work at his home while on self-quarantine. (ia/sovereignph.com)
