MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday confirmed that four more police officers tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), bringing the total number of cases in the police force to seven (7).
PNP spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said the four new cases had no history of travel abroad and could have possibly contracted the disease when they were deployed to quarantine checkpoints.
“Of course, ‘yung possibility ng coming from the frontline, then nag-relieving tapos babalik sa barracks or sa office, then possible exposure na naman pagbalik sa field, so pasa pasa (Of course, the possibility of coming from the front line and returning to the barracks or the office and then possible exposure when they return to the field. So it was passed on),” he told reporters.
He did not give any further details of the patients.
As of Tuesday, Banac said 145 PNP personnel (25 police commissioned officers (PCOs), 115 police non-commissioned officers (PNCO) and five non-uniformed personnel (NUP) were classified as Patients Under Investigation (PUIs) while 1,416 PNP personnel (268 PCO, 1,086 PNCO, and 62 NUP) are listed as Persons Under Monitoring (PUMs).
