MANILA – Philippine Navy (PN) flag-officer-in-command, Rear Admiral Giovanni Carlo Bacordo, said he and the government have the backs of personnel serving as front-liners in the battle against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) outbreak in the country.
“The government and your Philippine Navy will take care of you, just do your duty diligently (and) always follow the rules and directives from the Inter-Agency Task Force,” Bacordo said while visiting Navy personnel manning checkpoints in San Juan City, Cainta in Rizal and the Marikina Sports Complex on Tuesday.
About two battalions of sailors and marines have been deployed as part of the Naval Task Group – National Capital Region (NCR) and under the supervision of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Joint Task Force – NCR, which was one of the units tasked to implement the 30-day enhanced community quarantine in Luzon.
“Take this enhanced community quarantine seriously to minimize the effect of this virus to our community and always keep yourselves healthy amid the looming threat of Covid-19,” Bacordo said.
In a statement, Lt. Commander Maria Christina Roxas, PN public affairs office chief, said the Navy chief’s visit aimed to boost the morale of front-line troops who were on duty since the beginning of the enhanced community quarantine.
“The men and women of the PN are committed to proactively aid the government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders in their collective efforts to mitigate the effects of this global pandemic,” Roxas added. (PNA)
