CAMP GEN. ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan —The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in this province seized some PHP294,000 worth of face masks during an entrapment operation against hoarders and profiteers in front of the barangay hall of Bulihan, Pladidel town on Wednesday.
Operatives of the CIDG, together with those from the Plaridel police in coordination with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), also arrested two alleged hoarders identified as Mico Cantero, 28, a resident of Unit 1, Salvador Estate, Barangay San Isidro, Parañaque City and Ralphy Evangelista, 30, a resident of 39-D, Eulogia Drive, Balintawak, Quezon City.
Col. Lawrence Cajipe, acting director of the Bulacan Police Provincial Office, said that based on the report, an undercover agent made an online transaction with the suspects and ordered 280 packs of disposable surgical face mask at the cost of PHP1,050 per pack for a total cost of PHP294,000.
The price per pack is higher than the suggested retail price of PHP55 to PHP400 per pack or PHP1.10 to PHP8 per piece.
Cajipe said confiscated during the operation were 280 packs of unbranded disposable surgical face mask, one genuine PHP1,000 bill, and 63 pieces of PHP1,000 bill boodle money.
“The arrested suspects are presently under the custody of Bulacan CIDG together with the confiscated pieces of evidence,” he said.
The two suspects are facing charges for violation of Republic Act 7581 or the Price Act, and RA 7394 or the Consumer Act.
“We will not cease to go after the individuals and storeowners who are engaged in profiteering, overpricing and hoarding of medical supplies,” Cajipe said. (PNA)
