BAYAMBANG, Pangasinan – Mayor Cezar Quiambao of this town and his wife Mary Claire Niña José have recovered after testing positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Quiambao said they decided to have themselves checked and tested for Covid-19 on March 16.
“During our 14-day quarantine, we confirmed that we were both positive so we received proper treatment from the doctors who believe that we have now recovered,” he said.
Quiambao and his wife had close contact with Bayambang’s first Covid-19 case.
“Please do not worry because we are both doing fine. However, we will undergo another 14-day self-quarantine to make sure that we are not putting anyone at risk. This is our way of helping contain the spread of the virus and helping our health workers to flatten the curve,” he added.
Aside from the couple, based on the advisory of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) through Pangasinan’s official Facebook page, Dagupan City recorded four Covid-19 cases while Alaminos City and San Fabian town each posted one case as of 9 a.m. of April 1.
In an interview Wednesday, PHO chief Dr. Anna Ma. Teresa de Guzman said San Fabian’s Covid-19 case was a seven-year-old female from Barangay Inmalog who had close contact with an overseas Filipino worker.
She was the youngest patient in the Ilocos region who contracted and died from the disease.
“She was admitted to a hospital in La Union province. The elderly are not the only ones vulnerable (to) the virus, but also the children,” de Guzman said.
Alaminos City’s first case is a 68-year-old female who resides in Barangay Telbang and had a travel history to Australia.
Mayor Arth Bryan Celeste issued a statement on Tuesday ordering community quarantine for Barangay Telbang.
Meanwhile, de Guzman said the Covid-19 cases in Dagupan City include a couple from Barangay Pogo Chico.
“A 52-year-old female and 54-year-old male who had exposure to the positive patient, while the other one is from Barangay Lucao, a 50-year-old female, and a 37-year-old male from Bonuan Gueset. Both were exposed to an OFW,” she said.
The couple from Pogo Chico has been undergoing home quarantine since they were identified as patients under investigation (PUIs) before getting the result of their test.
Mayor Marc Brian Lim issued a total lockdown order in the barangay, assuring his constituents that the city government would provide their necessities.
The two other patients in Dagupan City are confined at the Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC).
No total lockdown was imposed in their respective barangays as they have been in the hospital as PUIs, Lim said in his statement posted on the Public Information Office’s Facebook page.
Pangasinan has a total of 23 confirmed Covid-19 cases, seven of whom had died while 16 are confined in hospitals.
The province also has 58 PUIs, four of whom have died, 17 are in hospitals, and 37 have recovered. (PNA)
