MANILA – What could be considered as game changer among holding facilities for coronavirus patients, the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) religious organization has offered the extra-huge Philippine Arena to the government to use it as interim “mega medical facility” to combat coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.
The offer was made by no other than INC Executive Minister Brother Eduardo Manalo as he directed the church to be “all out” in its efforts to prevent the spread of the virus.
Wikipedia says the Philippine Arena is the world’s largest indoor arena. It is a multipurpose indoor arena with a maximum seating capacity of 55,000 at Ciudad de Victoria, a 140-hectare tourism enterprise zone in Bocaue and Santa Maria, Bulacan, Philippines about 30 kilometers north of Manila.
“Ka Eduardo has told us that rather than face this threat with fear, we should confront it with action––and this is why the Church has chosen to help the government and our countrymen in any way we can,” INC General Auditor Glicerio Santos Jr. said.
Similar efforts are already being done by the Department of Public Works and Highways which promised to convert within 10 days as quarantine facilities the Rizal Memorial Stadium Complex, which will be opened this weekend, Philippine International Convention Center, World Trade Center, Quezon Institute, Food Terminal Incorporated or FTI in Taguig, PhilSports Arena or the ULTRA in Pasig, Filinvest Tent in Alabang, Duty Free Philippines in Parañaque, Amoranto Stadium, Quezon City Memorial Circle, Veterans Medical Center Complex, and the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.
