MANILA – Confirmed cases of the killer virus in the Philippines vaulted to 3,660 after the Department of Health tallied 414 new positive patients on Monday, 06 April 2020.

On the sadder side of the present health crisis, the DOH also recorded 11 more fatalities, raising the total to 163.

If it was of any consolation for health workers and relatives, nine (9) freed themselves from COVID-19’s gauntlet as they recovered from the disease.

There is now a total of 73 recoveries overall since Day 1.

Worldwide, there are now 1,270,302 people infected by the virus in 180 countries are infected with the disease including 69,514 fatalities.

The United States of America has the biggest number of COVID-19 cases at 337,638 followed by Spain with 131,646 cases.

In Southeast Asia, Malaysia leads with 3,662 COVID-19 cases followed by PH.

6 p.m. clapping for health heroes

Meanwhile, former Congressman and now Undersecretary of the Office of The President  Jacinto V. Paras urges Filipinos to go to their windows, terraces  or verandas, and make a sound by clapping their hands or by any means to create a sound at 6 p.m. daily as a form of honoring and thanking Filipino health workers who are risking their lives and battling it out to save lives from Covid -19 infections.

“Every Filipino should this do this habit as a noble deed for our health workers,” Paras said. “We should start the “6 p.m. Habit” as soon as possible with the earliest this Monday, 06 April 2020.

Salary donation

Paras has also said he is offering his whole salary for the month of April as a seed for a “health workers fund” even as he also urged government secretaries, undersecretaries, assistant secretaries and all director level officials to donate voluntarily at least their salary for April, 2020.

He suggested that the donated funds from the said officials be deposited to a private sector organization for transparency.

Paras initially suggested to deposit the funds to GMA 7’s Kapuso account and he will allegedly ask GMA 7 to administer the donations and distribute it equally to all health workers (private and public) from a list submitted by DOH.

He hopes these officials will be kind-hearted enough.

Earlier, Paras as PLLO official, actively assisted Malacanang and lawmakers in the shepherding of the bill declaring national emergency and gave President Duterte additional powers amid the country’s fight of the virus. He was joined by other officials such as Usec Michael Ong of Malacanang, Usec Bayani Agabin of DOF and Usec Epi Densing of DILG.

Like the other officials and lawmakers who attended the special session, Paras also subjected himself under home quarantine for 14 days as appropriations committee chair in ACT-CIS Partylist Congressman Eric Yap tested positive of the virus.

A week later, however, the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine rescinded its findings on Yap and apologized for a disastrous clerical error over his coronavirus test.

“We should be making the clapping of hands daily at 6 p.m. as routine exercise in the next 30 days,” Paras said.

“This is also our own little way of showing our gratitude and making or declaring thousands of our health workers as heroes from this worldwide health crisis.” (IA/sovereignph.com)
