MANILA — The Department of Health has reported on Saturday 233 new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

That number pushed national tally of confirmed cases to 4,428 from Friday’s count of 4,195.

The DOH also reported 26 new fatalities from the disease, bringing the number of deaths to 247.

It was the highest number of deaths thus far this week in a single day the DOH said.

However, there were 17 new recoveries that was announced by the health department pushing the total count to 157 of discharged patients from the killer virus.

Worldwide, there are now 1,699,019 cases including recoveries of 376,976 and deaths of 102,774.

In the Philippines, the first person to officially die from the novel coronavirus was a 61-year-old Chinese man from Wuhan on January 9.

Three months later, more than 100,000 people have succumbed to the disease worldwide. (ia/SovereignPH.com)
