MANILA – The Department of Health has on Thursday, 16 April 2020, recorded anew a big number of recoveries of 82 patients from the deadly coronavirus menace.

On its Case Bulletin #033, the DOH said the 82 discharged number of patients vaulted to 435 even as the 207 new cases brought the number of COVID-19 infected patients to 5,660 as of 4 p.m., April 16, 2020.

In terms of fatalities, meantime, the health department only recorded 13 new deaths that upped the total to 362.

As this developed, resignation calls against DOH Secretary Francisco Duque filled the airwaves anew with 15 senators, led by Senate President Tito Sotto, filing a resolution seeking for his immediate resignation.

Aside from Sotto, the resolution was co-authored by 14 other Senators namely: Ralph Recto, Migz Zubiri, Sonny Angara, Nancy Binay, Grace Poe, Manny Pacquiao, Win Gatchalian, Francis Tolentino, Joel Villanueva, Ronald dela Rosa, Imee Marcos, Lito Lapid, Bong Revilla and Ping Lacson.

In the still unnumbered resolution, the 15 senators pointed out the health department chief must immediately resign or vacate his post for his “failure of leadership, negligence, lack of foresight, inefficiency in the performance of his mandate” amid the COVID-19 crisis.

And this, they said, “resulted in poor planning, delayed response, lack of transparency and misguided flip-flopping policies and measures on COVID-19.”

Worldwide, the disease spread further to 2,064,815 including 512,252 recoveries and 137,078 fatalities.

Of that confirmed cases around the globe, the United States remains most impacted country with 644,188 cases followed by Spain (180,659), Italy (165,155), Germany (134,753) and France (106,206). (ia/
