MANILA – Authorities have arrested 345 suspects for profiteering, overpricing, and hoarding of medical supplies during month-long police operations in different areas of the country, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said on Friday.

In a report submitted to Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Gen. Archie Gamboa, the CIDG said from March 17 to April 16, CIDG operatives seized a total of 24,778 liters of alcohol, 1,125,948 pieces of face masks, 1,477 pieces of thermal scanners, and 1,029 liters of hand sanitizers in 220 police operations nationwide.

All seized pieces of evidence have a total estimated value of PHP 51,017,263.

The CIDG also turned over 500 boxes of these surgical face masks, 12 bottles of alcohol, and 82 pieces of thermal scanners to the Department of Health and hospitals in Naga City, Zamboanga Del Sur, and Manila.

It added that law enforcement operations against hoarders and profiteers of medical supplies have been intensified as the enhanced community quarantine is being implemented in Luzon and some parts of the country.

The CIDG said that it will continue its campaign against exploitative individuals or groups who take advantage of the pandemic. (PNA)
