MANILA – Forty more patients were reported to have recovered from the coronavirus scare, pushing the number of COVID-19 survivors further to 762 as of Friday, 24 April 2020.
On the new COVID-19 cases department, health authorities chalked-up 211 more confirmed cases and the national tally inched some more to 7,192 even as the national government announced another 15-day extension of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila and other “high-risk” areas.
Malacanang said purpose of the ECQ extension is to further slow the spread of the contagion down.
Metro Manila, Calabarzon are among the areas to remain in enhanced quarantine until May 15.
General community quarantine is to be implemented in moderate, low-risk areas Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said.
The figure on fatalities, meanwhile, were recorded at 15 for a death toll of 477 overall.
As approved by President Rodrigo Duterte, the government’s coronavirus task force recommended to maintain the ECQ in outbreak epicenter Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, provinces of Pangasinan, Benguet, Albay, and the islands of Mindoro and Catanduanes until May 15.
Cebu province and the islands of Panay as well as the provinces of Davao Del Norte and Davao City are also under ECQ.
The general community quarantine is intended for “moderate- and low-risk areas.”
Worldwide, there are now 2,709,483 confirmed cases of COVID-19 including 742,855 recoveries and 190,872 deaths.
