ILOILO CITY – Ten more patients from Western Visayas have recovered from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), bringing to a total of 2 in the region, the Department of Health-Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) 6 (Western Visayas) said on Saturday.

Of the 10, nine recovered patients are on home quarantine while one is scheduled for discharge, Dr. Renilyn Reyes, head of the DOH-CHD 6’s Public Health Development Program, told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) in a phone interview.

The recoveries include 75-year-old and 48-year-old males from Bacolod City; a 39-year-old female, a 41-year-old male, a 70-year-old female, and 48-year-old female, all from Lambunao town, Iloilo; and a 50-year-old male and a 52-year-old female from Pavia town, Iloilo.

A 25-year-old male from Roxas City, Capiz, and a 69-year-old male from Pandan, Antique had also recovered from the virus.

“The recovered patients tested negative in their repeat test of RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) plus they were given resolution of signs and symptoms,” she said.

The clinical resolution is granted to a patient if he or she does not manifest fever for three days and records improvement in both respiratory symptoms and chest X-rays.

On the laboratory results from the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) sub-national laboratory on April 23, Reyes said that there were negative results from the retesting of Covid-19 patients.

“The local government unit or the hospital where the patient is admitted will determine that. We got the laboratory result that is negative but the doctor still has to assess if the patient is asymptomatic or can be considered as recovered,” she said.

The newly-recovered patients need to undergo a 14-day quarantine.

“But it depends on the medical assessment id extension of the quarantine period is warranted,” Reyes said.

The cases for Covid-10 in Western Visayas remain at 58 as all the 79 laboratory results released on Friday were negative.

The Covid-19 deaths, meanwhile, has increased to nine after the death of a patient from Roxas City, Capiz.

In an official statement, the Provincial Health Office of Capiz said a 63-year-old man from Roxas City died of Covid-19 on Friday at The Medical City Inc.

“Appropriate burial and funeral arrangements have been coordinated between the family, the health facility, and the City Government of Roxas as based on existing policies and guidelines,” it assured. (PNA)
