MANILA – Recoveries from deadly coronavirus in the country soared past the one thousand mark even as new cases of COVID-19 break 8000 the Department of Health said Wednesday (29 April 2020).

The DOH confirmed 48 more people have accordingly recovered from the disease (COVID-19) for an overall total of 1,023 nationwide.

New cases, meantime, logged in at 254 as the number of individuals infected with COVID-19 in the country eased to 8,212.

PH’s death toll also increased to 558, after 28 new fatalities surmised the DOH said.

Worldwide, the novel coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2 has already infected over 3.1 million individuals across the globe including more than 210,000 deaths.

Meanwhile, recoveries closed in on at the one million mark at 932,000.

The Top 5 countries with COVID-19 cases are as follows:

  1. United States: 1,035,045 cases; 118,228 recoveries; 58,964 deaths
  2. Spain: 210,773 cases; 102,548 recoveries; 23,822 deaths
  3. Italy: 201,505 cases; 68,941 recoveries; 27,359 deaths
  4. United Kingdom: 161,145 cases; recoveries n/a; 21,678 deaths
  5. Germany: 159,912 cases; 110,041 recoveries; 6,314 deaths

COVID-19 is a respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2.

Unconfirmed reports say, the outbreak started in China’s Wuhan City in Hubei province in late 2019.

Symptoms of virus range from mild or moderate such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.

For older adults and people with existing health problems, however, the virus causes more severe illness, including pneumonia, and death.
