MANILA — Former senator Jinggoy Estrada has been arrested on Sunday for allegedly violating quarantine protocols.
Estrada was accosted by police while distributing food items to residents in San Juan City amid the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) protocol.
San Juan Police chief Police Colonel Jaime Santos explained to Estrada, who lost his re-election bid in 2019, that he was arrested for violating social distancing measures of the ECQ.
“May nakarating na reports as well as photos na violated ‘yung social distancing saka ‘yung proper handling of food,” Santos said.
Former president and Manila mayor Joseph Estrada accompanied his son at the police station.
However, Bernadette Reyes of GMA News claimed the former senator was wearing personal protective equipment while he was distributing fish.
Another video taken by Estrada’s staff, Barangay Salapan residents were seen lined up close to one another as bangus was distributed to them.
And while Estrada was handing out the fish, Santos arrived and invited the former senator to the police station.
The food items were also confiscated by police.
It may be recalled that San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora also had a spat with Estrada over a rolling store that was opened by his daughter Janella without the necessary business permit. (ia/SovereignPH.com)
