MANILA – Classes for school year 2020-2021 will open on August 24, 2020 Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Briones announced Tuesday, May 5, 2020.
The education chief however said that the preferred date for the start of classes for the school year will depend on the state of the pandemic in the country or as may be advised by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Disease.
But by then, she said, the DepEd may have an option to hold classes either to conduct them physically or virtually.
Briones added her agency already reported their chosen date to the IATF and that she had informed them that the chosen date was based on consultations.
“Naireport ko na sa IATF last week at nasabi ko na ang napili naming date. Dahil sa pag-consultation namin, ang preference nila ay August…. Ang napili naming class opening date ay August 24,” she said.
Briones also added that the end of classes for the coming schoolyear would be on April 30, 2021.
National school events such as the Palarong Pambansa and Schools Press Conference will be canceled this coming school year Briones said. (ia/SovereignPH.com)
