MANILA – The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has on Tuesday, 05 May 2020, issued a cease and desist order against ABS-CBN 2 following the expiration of its congressional license or franchise to operate.

The media giant’s congressional franchise expired a day before or on May 4.

NTC’s cease and desist order was issued Tuesday, May 5, directing the network to stop its television and radio broadcasting operations immediately.

The commission also gave ABS-CBN 10 days from receipt of the cease and desist order to respond and explain why the frequencies assigned to it should not be recalled.

It was gathered that Republic Act No. 7966 granted the Lopez-led network a franchise to operate for 25 years that expired on Monday, May 4.

At least 11 franchise renewal bills have had been filed by several lawmakers on behalf of the network but Congress failed to act on them.
