MANILA – The Supreme Court (SC) will meet online anew on Friday (May 8) to honor retiring Associate Justice Andres Reyes Jr., its spokesperson said Tuesday.
“(T)here will be a retirement ceremony on Friday, 08 May 2020, for Justice Andres B. Reyes, Jr. through videoconferencing. It will be a private ceremony to be participated only by the Justices of the Supreme Court,” SC Public Information Office chief Brian Hosaka said.
Reyes will mandatorily retire from the judiciary upon turning 70 on May 11.
President Rodrigo Duterte appointed Reyes as the 177th Associate Justice of the High Court on July 17, 2017, replacing Associate Justice Bienvenido Reyes.
He previously served the Metropolitan Trial Court of Makati City, Regional Trial Court of San Mateo, Rizal. He was appointed as a magistrate of the Court Appeals (CA) in 1999 and as its Presiding Justice in 2010.
He is the son of Andres Reyes Sr., a former presiding justice of the appellate court during the Marcos era. (ia/PNA)
