MANILA – Due to conflict of interest, lawyer Larry Gadon on Saturday urged nine (9) senators to inhibit themselves from deliberations and eventually passing the ABS-CBN franchise renewal bill.
Gadon’s call on the senators to inhibit themselves came after the Lower House railroaded the passage on first and second reading all in one day of HB 6732, which pundits said the speed of the Congressmen was like a walk in the park resulting in the unconstitutionality of such act.
Gadon pointed to the seven senators namely:
1. Sen. Francis Pangilinan
2. Sen. Pia Cayetano
3. Sen. Manny Pacquiao
4. Sen. Lito Lapid
5. Sen. Grace Poe
6. Sen. Bong Revilla, and
7. Sen. President Tito Sotto
The outspoken lawyer said the above-mentioned senators need to distance themselves on discussions and deliberations of the senate because of the fact that they may already have “pre-judgments” over ABS-CBN’s franchise bill.
On his prepared statement Gadon stated that Sen. Pangilinan has conflict of interest because his wife Megastar Sharon Cuneta-Pangilinan is a contract talent and stockholder of ABS-CBN.
On the other hand, Gadon said, Sen. Cayetano’s family law office is connected to the network while Sen. Pacquiao have his boxing fights oftentimes aired by the network.
For his part, Sen. Lapid accordingly played a role in one of ABS-CBN long-running TV series Ang Probinsyano; Sen. Poe, whose parents are movie stars of ABS-CBN; while Sen. Revilla is a movie and show talent for ABS-CBN and Sen. Sotto has relatives believed to have ties with ABS-CBN.
“Ang mga senador na ito ay dapat na mag-inhibit sa pagdinig ng kaso ng ABS-CBN at sa pag-boto. Hindi sila pwedeng bomoto sapagkat meron na silang pre-judgment. Hindi na nila inintindi kung may violations or complaints against ABS-CBN,” Gadon said.
Gadon later added Senators Ralph Recto and Sonny Angara whose spouses he said are allegedly working with ABS-CBN.
Gadon hopes that these senators would not be reckless in their action knowing the fact that, “clearly nakinabang sila one way or the other with ABS-CBN’s business.”
“Sana naman magkaroon sila ng delicadeza,” Gadon finally said. (ia/SovereignPH.com)
