ZAMBOANGA CITY — This city’s confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases have increased to 141, as another seven new cases were registered in this southern port city, officials said Monday.
Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar, chairperson of the local Inter-Agency Task Force on Covid-19, said the results for the seven new cases were released Sunday based on the GeneXpert PCR test done at the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC).
Salazar said the seven new additional Covid-19 cases are part of the persons deprived of liberty (PDL) with release order from the court who were tested before they were freed from the jail facility.
Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite, head of the City Health Office, said that 132 of the 141 Covid-19 cases are from the ZCRC; with 114 of the 132 are PDLs or former PDLs while the remaining 18 are personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
“So far, almost one month now all our confirmed cases (of Covid-19) are related to the ZCRC,” Miravite said in a virtual press conference Monday.
She said only seven of the total cases are community-based while two were detected in Manila but listed in this city as their hometown.
“The last positive case from the community was recorded on April 14,” she added. (IA/PNA)
