MANILA – The Department of Health on Wednesday reported a huge number anew of new cases of individuals infected with the virus as the country breached the 13K mark even as recoveries or survivors from the disease (COVID-19) kept their number growing.

The number of survivors further grew to 2,932 after the DOH reported 89 new recoveries while the new cases zoomed to 13,221 following a huge count of 279 of confirmed new COVID-19 cases was registered.

Of that count, the National Capital Region once again led the way with 150 new cases or 54% of the total pie while other regions, save for Region 7, logged in an aggregate of 115 (41%).

Region 7 (Central Visayas) only had 14 (5%).

Active cases, the DOH said, were pegged at 2,932.

On Wednesday, there were only five (5) fatalities and PH’s total deaths rose to 842.

Meanwhile, DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire announced the number of health workers infected with Covid-19 as of May 18 are as follows: nurses infected with Covid-19, 842; doctors/physicians, 671; nursing assistants, 144; medical technologists, 84; radiologic technologists, 42; and 284 non-medical staff.

Worldwide cases      

Confirmed worldwide cases of the coronavirus already reached 4,897,567 including 1,688,630 recoveries and 323,286 deaths.

The United States remains most impacted country with 1,558,631 confirmed cases including 297,153 recoveries and 92,258 deaths.

Countries with a hundred to three hundred thousand cases are as follows:
