MANILA —The Department of Health on late Saturday afternoon reported 180 more cases of novel coronavirus disease, pushing the total of infected individuals in the country to 13,777.
Of that count, the National Capital Region, once again topped the chart with 114 cases or 63% while other areas in the country contributed 66 or 37%.
The DOH said that at present there are still 9,737 active cases accounting for 6 new fatalities and 85 new recoveries.
Fatalities now stands at 863 while recoveries improved to 3,177.
In all, the total new cases this week reached 1,472, added up to the previous 12,305 record of COVID-19 cases last Saturday, the total is now pegged at 13,777.
But the health department on Friday said the number could even be higher as thousands who tested positive for the coronavirus are still being validated due to issues like potential duplicate cases of those with similar names.
“Ang validation po ng confirmed cases ay isang mahaba at masalimuot na prosesong kinakailangan pinaglalaanan ng mahabang oras upang masiguro na tama ang impormasyon at datos na ating inilalabas,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a Friday briefing.
Daily average in the week just passed saw 210 new cases, 6 deaths and 88 recoveries.
Since Sunday, 46 were reported to have succumbed to the respiratory disease. It was the lowest weekly death total since April.
Almost 5 million cases of the coronavirus, including around 327,000 deaths, have been logged globally by the World Health Organization in its latest situation report. (ia/SovereignPH.com)
