MANILA – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), in partnership with communications firm Smart-PLDT, on Saturday deployed a rolling store at its headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City as part of their efforts to provide the basic necessities of soldiers assigned at the military facility and their dependents.
Navy Captain Jonathan Zata, AFP public affairs office chief, said the rolling store was set up near the Lapu-Lapu Grandstand and military personnel, their dependents, AFP civilian employees participated in the whole-day bazaar.
“The activity sought to lessen unnecessary travel by residents who intend to buy essential goods outside camp thus helping limit the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19),” he said in a statement Sunday.
Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and PLDT president and chief executive Manny V. Pangilinan led the opening of the bazaar along with AFP deputy chief-of-staff Lt. Gen. Erickson Gloria and AFP GHQ and Headquarters Service commander Brig. Gen. Rodolfo Lavadia, Jr.
“The Armed Forces of the Philippines is grateful for the assistance of Smart-PLDT and other stakeholders to alleviate the negative effects of the Covid-19 pandemic to our soldiers, dependents, and civilian workforce. This shall inspire our members to better perform their duties in winning over the deadly virus,” AFP chief-of-staff General Felimon Santos Jr. said.
Aside from telecommunications gadgets, the AFP invited business firms and other merchants that offer essential goods and services to participate in the event.
Also available were grocery items, vegetables, clothing, hygiene items, and personal protective equipment such as face masks. (PNA)
