MANILA – Count of the coronavirus cases in the country has exceeded the 17k mark following the Department of Health’s report on Saturday of 590 new cases.

And with it, the tally nationwide now stands at 17,224.

Considered as the contagion’s epicenter, the National Capital Region (NCR) came up with the big numbers in both the fresh cases and late cases as it registered 162 and 218, respectively.

Data from other areas had it 72 and 111, respectively, while Region 7 contributed 18 under “fresh” while repatriates had 9 on “late cases.”

Fresh cases are test results released to patients within the last three days while late cases are those from four (4) days ago or more.

On the other hand, recovery count now stands at 3,808 after the Health department confirmed 88 more survivors.

A total of 8 new fatalities were also recorded, bringing the death toll to 950.

Less the total deaths and recoveries, the number of active COVID-19 cases in the Philippines is only 12,466.

The DOH explained the spike on the number of cases is mainly attributed to “the more complete and timely submission of laboratories of their line list and the recent deployment of COVID-KAYA information system.”
