MANILA – The Supreme Court has denied a petition by network giant ABS-CBN for an immediate franchise renewal.

According to a Manila Times report, the Supreme Court (SC) en banc on Tuesday junked the petition of a lawyer who sought for the immediate renewal of the franchise of media giant ABS-CBN Corp.

It may be recalled that the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) shut down the network after its license to operate expired in early May.

The Manila Times said the high court dismissed the petition for Certiorari, Prohibition and Mandamus filed by trial lawyer Paris Real for lack of legal standing to file the case.

The magistrates ruled against consolidating the case of Real with the petition filed by ABS-CBN against the NTC which sought its immediate reopening.

In the petition for Certiorari, Prohibition and Mandamus, Real wanted the House of Representatives to convene as Committee of the Whole and deliberate immediately on the renewal of the legislative franchise of ABS-CBN. (ia/SovereignPH.com)
