MANILA – A Regional Trial Court in Olongapo City has dismissed the case filed against public school teacher Ronnel Mas who was arrested after posting on social media a P50-million bounty to anyone who can kill President Rodrigo Duterte.

In his 15-page decision, RTC Branch 72 Judge Richard Paradeza granted Mas’ motion to quash pursuant to Section 3 (c) Rule 117 of the Rules of Criminal Procedures (That the court trying the case has no jurisdiction over the person of the accused).

The 25-year-old teacher of the Taltal National High School in Masinloc, Zambales was charged with inciting to sedition related to cybercrime.

“Considering that accused Mas had timely raised objection to the legality of his arrest before arraignment, and with the findings of this court that accused Mas was indeed unlawfully arrested, this court failed to acquire jurisdiction over his person,” Pradeza said.

Mas was accompanied by lawyers from the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) at the courtroom and were elated on the RTC decision. (ia/SPH)
