MANILA — The number of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections among Filipinos abroad has reached 8,361 as the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Thursday logged 10 more cases.
With only three countries in Asia and the Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East reporting on the status of overseas Filipinos, the DFA also confirmed four more recoveries and one new fatality, raising the number to 5,076 and 513, respectively.
The active cases and those who have recovered comprise 33 percent and 60 percent of the total confirmed cases while the death toll remains less than 10 percent.
At present, those undergoing treatment stands at 2,772 — at least 82 are in the Asia Pacific, 456 in Europe, 2,086 in Middle East/Africa, and 148 in the Americas.
“As the DFA joins the rest of the world in honoring all Filipino seafarers on this 10th Anniversary of the Day of the Seafarer, the DFA continues its relentless efforts in delivering the safe return of our seafarers and all our nationals affected by this pandemic, wherever and whenever possible,” the DFA said.
Based on the latest data from the agency, over 51,000 Filipinos have been repatriated since February 2020, including a total of 29,302 sea-based workers. (PNA)
