MANILA — The Department of Health reported 1,540 new cases of the coronavirus Tuesday and the Philippines caseload of the virus jumped to 47,873.
Out of the number of new confirmed cases, 993 were considered as fresh while 547 are categorized as late.
Fresh cases are test results released to patients in the last three (3) days while late cases are those released to patients four (4) days ago or more.
The number of patients who succumbed to the killer disease only had six (6) bringing the total death toll to 1,309.
On the positive side, recoveries improved to 12,386 after 201 more survivors were added to the growing list.
Active cases of the virus in the country is pegged only at 34,178 because the DOH explained, recovered and patients who succumbed to the disease, are no longer under the care of the health agency.
The DOH has yet to introduce the new method of reporting Covid-19 cases as reported by DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire.
Vergeire said the agency will introduce a new method of reporting coronavirus cases starting July 10, and will cease using the terminology “fresh” and “late” cases.
The week just passed saw a significant increase in the number of new confirmed coronavirus cases with the DOH on July 5, confirmed a record 2,434 new cases while on Monday, July 6, the agency recorded 2,099 new cases.
