MANILA — The Department of Health on Monday chalked up 1,521 new confirmed coronavirus infections and the Covid-19 tally in the Philippines soared past 68,000.
The 1,521 additional Covid-19 cases brought the total number of infections in PH to 68,898.
But the actual, active cases in the country, obtained by deducting the number of recoveries and fatalities, only stands at 43,991.
On the other hand, the number of recoveries soared even further to 23,072 after the DOH registered 607 more new Covid-19 survivors on Monday.
And if it was any consolation to the whole nation living on edge amid the pandemic, the killer disease only managed to claim four (4) more lives but nevertheless shored up the total deaths to 1,835.
Health officials on Monday said that the National Capital Region will remain under general community quarantine until the end of the month (July 31) even as Cebu City transitioned to modified enhanced community quarantine.
Several hospitals, like the Kidney Institute and St. Luke’s, in Metro Manila announced they had reached or are nearing full utilization of their facilities dedicated to COVID-19.
Worldwide, number of infections already reached 14,507,491 including 8,133,663 recoveries and 606,173 deaths.
Among the hardest-hit countries include the United States (3,834,208), Brazil (2,099,896), India (1,118,043), Russia (777,486), and South Africa (364,328). (ia/SPH)
