MANILA — The Department of Health (DOH on Friday, 04 August 2020, registered 3,714 additional coronavirus cases raising the total number of confirmed infections to 232,072.

Healed or recovered patients grew further to 160,549 with the additional number of 1,088 survivors registered on the same day.

Fatalities, meanwhile, rose to 3,737 with 49 new deaths, coming mostly from the capital region the DOH said. Thirty-five of the new deaths occurred in August, while five in September.

Active cases of Covid-19 in the country, the DOH said is pegged at 67,786. Active infections comprise 29% of the total confirmed cases.

The number of new cases Friday is higher than the 1,987 new cases reported Thursday—the lowest number of daily cases in over a month.

According to DOH, Friday’s figures were based on the tests done by only 93 out of 113 operational laboratories.

Of the new infections, almost half or 48% came from outbreak epicenter Metro Manila (1,797) followed by Negros Occidental with 390 cases, Batangas (248), Laguna (247) and Cavite (150).

The DOH also said that of the new cases, around 88% occurred in the last two weeks while at least 45 duplicate cases were removed from the total case count.

Meanwhile, researchers from the University of the Philippines monitoring the pandemic projected that PH’s coronavirus caseload could average at around 585,000 by the end of the year.

Regions in the country are either under general community quarantine or modified general community quarantine except for Iligan City in Northern Mindanao.

The National Capital Region, which is considered epicenter of the nation’s outbreak would remain under GCQ until September 30.

Worldwide, more than 866,000 people have died of COVID-19 out of over 26.2 million people infected. (ia)
