Joint Task Force Bicolandia is unstoppable!
In a report posted from Camp Elias Angeles in Pili, Camarines Sur, another communist NPA terrorist was killed in the recent armed encounter between the government troops and the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in Monreal, Masbate around 9:40 in the morning last Sunday, September 6.
The firefight ensued when elements of 2nd Infantry Battalion (2IB) and the PNP conducted security operations pursuing a lead from residents from Barangay Morocborocan tipped-off the presence of the terrorists in the area extorting money from civilians.
At least five withdrew from the area after a five-minute exchange of fire leaving their dead comrade behind. The casualty was identified as “Ka Roy”, member of Larangan 1, Komiteng Probinsya 4 of Bicol Regional Party Committee (BRPC).
One shotgun and undetermined amount of cash were captured from the fleeing armed terrorists.
Joint Task Force Bicolandia under Major General Henry A. Robinson condemned the continuous extortion activities of the New Peoples’ Army amid the Covid-19 crisis.
Masbate is a stubborn area to clear.
Last May at the height of the pandemic, a man was killed, while another one was wounded when they were shot by three suspected New People’s Army terrorists in Milagros town, Masbate.
The police reported that Romeo Fuentes, 65, and Jossel Fuentes, 35, were having coffee outside of their residence when attacked in Barangay Jamorawon around 6 a.m. Jossel was instantly killed, while Romeo was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
One of the suspects identified as Marvin Peralta was arrested, while two others known only as “Ka Banjo” and “Ka Marvin,” escaped.
A few weeks before that, a policeman and a local government employee, delivering Covid-19 cash amelioration aid in Masbate, were hurt when they were allegedly attacked by communist rebels.
“The communist terrorists once again demonstrated their anti-people and anti-poor color when they launched a terrorist attack against government officials,” Maj. Gen. Fernando Trinidad, Joint Task Force Bicolandia commander, said on Saturday.
He identified the victims as Cpl. Romel Bartolay, assigned at the Monreal Municipal Police Station, and Ricky Canares, a local government employee.
Bartolay was hit on the head with shrapnel from an exploded antipersonnel mine while Canares had a gunshot wound in the back. Both victims were brought to the Rural Health Unit for medical treatment.
The continuing extortion activities of this terrorist group disregard the everyday struggles of ordinary citizens.
“Makasariling gawain na hindi dapat tularan. Your Army in Bicol is therefore relentless and persistent in protecting the people and in putting an end to the communists’ unlawful activities and acts of terrorism,” he added.
