Almost all parts of the country will experience rains on Monday due to Tropical Depression Nika, a southwest monsoon, and a low pressure area (LPA), a weather specialist said.

The southwest monsoon affecting Central and Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will bring monsoon rains over Central Luzon, Pangasinan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro and Palawan.

“This means (these areas) will have moderate to heavy rains,” said Aldczar Aurelio of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The rest of the country will experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to “Nika” and the LPA last observed 670 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

“The LPA may develop into a tropical depression within 48 hours, Aurelio said.

Nika was last tracked 245 kilometers west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur, moving west northwestward at 15 kph.

It packs a maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center, and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

PAGASA earlier said Nika is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Monday.

Meanwhile, strong winds and rough seas will prevail over the northern and western sections of Northern and Central Luzon.

The rest of Luzon will have moderate to strong winds, and moderate to rough coastal waters.

Elsewhere, winds will be light with slight coastal waters, PAGASA said.
