The director of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for the Ilocos Region (Region 1) is in hot water over alleged graft and grave misconduct as a public official.
And amid millions of people having no livelihood and nothing to eat because of the economic crash caused by the coronavirus pandemic, this DPWH director had the gall to throw money into the air worth millions during his recent birthday bash.
A complaint affidavit filed by Councilor Arkie Manuel Yulde of Lopez in Quezon province showed DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel Tan allegedly owns millions of pesos in real estate property and vehicles, which is disproportionate to his earnings from this current position.
“We urge President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to immediately fire Director Ronnel Tan of the DPWH for conduct unbecoming of a public official. At this time when most of our fellow kababayans are suffering from economic hardships due to this pandemic, we find Director Tan highly insensitive for hosting a lavish party, and even throwing several million pesos treating such monies as confetti,” said Yulde’s lawyer.
Tan is the husband of Quezon province Rep. Helen Tan and he was appointed to his current position during the time of President Benigno Aquino 3rd.
Aside from the Quezon province councilor, Tan drew the ire of town and barangay officials after Mayors Webster Lerargo of the town of Gumaca and Mayor Ferdinand Mesa of Alabat saw how Tan just threw cash in the air during the lavish party he hosted.
Yulde said Tan should be subjected to a lifestyle check as he allegedly owns high-end real estate properties in Quezon City and other places.
Tan reportedly lives in a huge 600-square meter house in Loyola Grand Villas, an exclusive subdivision in Quezon City, and expensive vehicles. Meanwhile, a review of his Statements of Assets and Liabilities (SALN) showed his net worth at P14 million.
Based on the Salary Standardization Law (SSL), regional directors get a monthly salary of between P129,000 to P145,000. SOVEREIGNPH
