State weather forecasters said tropical storm “Siony” has intensified into a severe tropical storm as it slowly traverses the Philippine Sea.
According to the 5 p.m. severe weather bulleting of PAGASA, “Siony” was last categorized as a tropical storm.
It may reach peak intensities of 125 kph as it approaches Extreme Northern Luzon.
According to PAGASA, Siony was located 735 km east of Basco, Batanes.
“Siony” packed maximum sustained winds of 95 kph near the center and gusts of up to 115 kph.
However, “Siony” is barely moving northward.
Storm Signal No. 1 is still hoisted over Cagayan (Santa Ana, Gonzaga) and the eastern portion of Babuyan Islands which include Balintang Island, Babuyan Island, Didicas Island, Camiguin Island.
According to PAGASA, “Siony” will continue to move slowly to almost stationary for the next 12 hours.
It also said that “Siony” is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility on Friday. SOVEREIGNPH
