Tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) no. 2 has been hoisted over parts of the Bicol Region as Tropical Storm (TS) “Ulysses” further intensified, the weather bureau said in its 5 p.m. bulletin.

Ulysses now packs maximum sustained winds of 85 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 105 kph. It was last seen 375 kilometers (km) east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, or 500 km. east of Daet, Camarines Norte.

The areas under TCWS no. 2 are Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Albay, Camarines Sur, and the eastern portion of Camarines Norte. Damaging gale to storm-force winds will prevail in these areas.

TCWS no. 1 was hoisted over Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, the eastern portion of Pangasinan (San Nicolas, Natividad, San Quintin, Umingan, Balungao, Rosales, Santa Maria, Tayug, Asingan, San Manuel), Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Pamapanga, Bulacan, the central and southern portions of Zambales (Masinloc, Palauig, Iba, Botolan, Cabangan, San Felipe, San Narciso, San Marcelino, Castillejos, Subic, Olongapo City, San Antonio) , Bataan, Quezon including Polillo Islands, Metro Manila, Rizal, Laguna, Cavite, Batangas, the rest of Camarines Norte, Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands, Marinduque, Romblon, Oriental Mindoro, and Occidental Mindoro including Lubang Island, Northern Samar, the northern portion of Samar (Santo Nino, Almagro, Tagapul-An, Tarangnan, Calbayog City, Santa Margarita, Gandara, Pagsanghan, San Jorge, San Jose de Buan, Matuguinao), and the northern portion of Eastern Samar (Maslog, Dolores, Oras, San Policarpo, Arteche, Jipapad). These areas will have strong breeze to near gale conditions during the passage of the storm.

The TS will cause rough to very rough seas over the seaboards of areas under TCWS, and the eastern seaboard of Eastern Samar (that are not under TCWS). Sea travel is risky over these waters, especially for small seacraft.

In the next 24 hours, rough to very rough seas will also be experienced over the entire seaboards of northern Luzon, and the seaboards of Kalayaan Islands due to the surge of the northeast monsoon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Moderate to rough seas will continue over the remaining seaboards of the country.

Ulysses is forecast to bring light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Aurora, Quezon, the Bicol Region, Eastern and Central Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, the Zamboanga Peninsula, and the  Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. The tail-end of a cold front will continue to cause light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Cagayan, including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte, PAGASA said. PNA
