A Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) judge was shot dead by her own clerk of court right inside her court room on Wednesday afternoon.
Shot dead was Manila RTC Branch 45 Judge Ma Theresa Abadilla. The suspect was identified Amador Rebato, Abadilla’s clerk of court, who in turn reportedly shot himself after shooting the judge.
Initial reports said Abadilla asked Rebato to resign, which may have lead to the shooting incident.
Abadilla was the daughter of the late Colonel Rolando Abadilla of the defunct Philippine Constabulary (PC). Rolando Abadilla once headed the PC’s Military Intelligence and Security Group of the Metropolitan Command.
According to the Manila Police District (MPD), the 44-year old Abadilla was rushed to the Manila Medical Center but doctors declared her “dead on arrival” at 3:15 p.m.
“It appears that on said date and time, said victim and suspect while inside the office of the said Judge Samonte (Abadilla), witness heard a gunshot,” an initial report by the MPD said.
Major Rosalino Ibay Jr, head of the MPD Mayor’s Reaction Team (MPD SMaRT), who was among the first to respond to the crime scene, also said the suspect was “dead on the spot.”
The MPD SmaRT said the shooting happened at around 2:35 p.m. at Room 535 located at the 5th floor of the Manila City Hall. SOVEREIGNPH
