Former Speaker and Davao del Norte 1st District Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez has submitted his “irrevocable resignation” as secretary-general of the ruling PDP-Laban party.
He is set to join the revived Reporma political party that counts personalities like former defense secretary Renato de Villa. Alvarez said his main advocacy with Reporma will be voter’s education in time for the 2022 elections.
“This way, the voter’s education campaign can proceed, and rightly be perceived, as politically neutral without risking possible backlash against PDP-Laban,” a statement issued by Alvarez stated.
In his statement, he also thanked PDP-Laban President Sen. Aquilino “Koko”Pimentel III for allowing him to serve PDP-Laban for almost half a decade.
“Inspired by the example of Tatay Nene Pimentel, this is an issue that Rep. Alavarez, along with PDP-Laban, has likewise championed throughout his life especially since he is also a probinsyano who experienced the neglect felt by Filipinos living in provinces far away from Manila,” the statement issued by Alvarez stated. Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel was a former senator and father of Koko.
Alvarez said Reporma is a non-mainstream party that is not supporting any personality seeking to run for president in 2022. JONATHAN ARACELI FOR SOVEREIGNPH
