A magnitude 6 quake jolted Surigao del Sur on Monday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The tectonic quake struck 29 kilometers southeast of the municipality of San Agustin at 6:37 a.m. and had a depth of 33 km.

Intensity V was felt in the City of Bislig, Surigao del Sur; Rosario, Agusan del Sur, and intensity IV in Cagwait, City of Tandag, Bayabas, Surigao Del Sur.

Intensity III was reported in Cagayan de Oro City; Tagaloan, Villanueva, Balingasag, Misamis Oriental, and intensity II in El Salvador City, Initao, Luagit, Manticao, Misamis Oriental; Virac, Catanduanes

Intenisty I was felt in Iligan City.

The following instrumental intensities were also recorded:

Intensity IV- Bislig City, Surigao del Sur
Intensity III- Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental
Intensity II- Cagayan de Oro City; Surigao City, Surigao del Norte;
Intensity I- Alabel, Sarangani; Koronadal, Tupi, South Cotabato; Kidapawan City; Palo, Leyte; Borongan City

Both aftershocks and damages are expected from the quake.

In an advisory, Phivolcs said the earthquake that occurred in offshore Surigao del Sur has no tsunami threat. SOVEREIGNPH
