The hashtag #NasaPusoKoAngPangulo topped Twitter on Tuesday night amid the criticisms hurled against President Rodrigo Duterte on his and the government’s handling of rehabilitation efforts after the recent typhoons.
In a statement, Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar thanked netizens and the public for their continued support to the administration “amid persistent discrediting attempts of critics and the opposition.”
“Despite the relentless and absurd posts and comments by some individuals and groups on social media regarding the President’s supposed absence throughout the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses, we thank the public for the continued support they have shown on social media,” he said on Wednesday.
“As a proof of this support, #NasaPusoKoAngPangulo trended number 1 last night on Twitter as President Duterte explained to the public his actions and responses throughout the consecutive typhoons and amid the pandemic,” he added.
Duterte has been attacked or criticized over social media with the #NasaanAngPangulo hashtag over the perceived slow and uncoordinated response of the government’s rescue and rehabilitation in areas hit by the recent typhoons.
Andanar said that amid the criticisms hurled against the government and Duterte over social media, the public must remain vigilant against misinformation.
“We ask everyone to remain vigilant against misinformation, and be reminded of the division that its proliferation can cause,” he said.
“Rest assured the Duterte administration continues to respond to the calamities that affect us all and to the needs of Filipinos in general,” Andanar added. JONATHAN ARACELI FOR SOVEREIGNPH
